Knowing the Different Jewish Wedding Traditions

Jewish weddings in Greece are very symbolic. Everything has great significance, from the clothes worn to the deeds committed earlier in the week. Marriage is revered and seen as a sacred institution. Everyone looks forward to Jewish weddings in Greece and the unique Jewish wedding traditions.

Jewish weddings often take 20 to 30 minutes. Before two blessings were recited as a cup of wine was being poured, the bride would traditionally circle the groom. However, it is now traditional for the man to likewise surround his bride. This represents the fact that both parties are on an equal footing in the marriage and that they are now indispensable to one another. The blessings are then recited to remind the bride and groom of the marriage commandments.

Jewish wedding customs typically include music and joyous dancing. The wedding dance is a common Jewish wedding custom that takes place throughout the festivities and reception. The Hora is a type of circle dance. The guests form a circle and dance around the bride and groom in this scene. On their wedding day, the bride and groom are raised in chairs to represent trust and to emphasise their privileged status. Parents who are celebrating their final child together are also honoured in a circle dance and given flower crowns. A happy occasion for the bride and groom as well as for the parents to witness their children wed.

Jewish wedding customs are rich in symbolism and a reason to rejoice. It is believed that after marriage, the bride and husband are whole and belong together.
